Project at a Glance

BeeConnect investigates how habitat connectivity influences genetic diversity and gene flow in wild bee populations in Baden-Württemberg. The project focuses on four model species studied across the four administrative regions of Baden-Württemberg. By comparing different populations, the project aims to reveal how landscape structure and habitat connectivity affect their genetic diversity.

To achieve this, BeeConnect combines population genomic analyses with information on landscape characteristics and available floral resources. In addition, the occurrence of diploid males is investigated as a further indicator of potential inbreeding. This integrated approach provides a more comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to the long-term conservation of genetically diverse and resilient wild bee populations.
